Dark Souls 2 has been announced. I thought I would have been giddy with excitement, but I’m not.

I love Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls. They are some of the best games ever made, but playing one is an ordeal. I would hyperbolically equate it to climbing Mount Everest: worth it in every respect and a proud achievement, but not one you are particularly eager to take up again.

So when I say I am not excited it is because I realize the undertaking the game will require. I contemplate the toll this game will have on my psyche and my life outside of games. It will test my tenacity, and may best me like Dark Souls did. The trailer for DS2 informs you that you are “Forever without hope, forever without light”. That about sums up the series in its entirety.
