The list of creative LEGO creations grows longer with each passing day, but the list of LEGO creations that you can eat afterwards is understandably shorter. At least Japanese illustrator and designer Akihiro Mizuuchi can add his name to the list with a system for creating LEGO bricks from different kinds of chocolate. Apart from the edible aspect, Mizuuchi has also managed to create some cool 8-bit characters.
While the finished products is immensely impressive, the process for making them is surprisingly straightforward. All you need to do is pour melted chocolate into specially-designed moulds, wait for them to cool, pop out the solidified bricks, and get building. The mix of dark, white, and milk chocolate makes it easier to build things with added details, texture, and a mixture of other characteristics.
The practicality of chocolate LEGO might not be that high, but the creativity factor is through the roof. It might mean you have to do all your building in a commercial freezer, or some other super-cooled location, but seeing people wolf down the finished products will make up for any chills.
As with a lot of other LEGO spinoffs, this one hasn’t got the official seal of approval from the Danish company. It’s not even available to buy which is a great shame, but if you keep your fingers crossed, there might come a day when LEGO sets are completely edible – which means no more scattered pieces in the living room.
