Hotline Miami dev helps pirates play his game

The postmodern mass-murder lark Hotline Miami is being pirated. Normally this wouldn’t be news, but it turns out the game’s developer provided the pirates with tech support. T.J. Hafter at PC Gamer found Jonatan Söderström leaving helpful comments on torrenting sites.

Not only does Söderström (posting under the username Cactus69—we’ve confirmed with Hotline Miami PR that the pseudonym is Söderström) not say a word about what is essentially people obtaining his game for free, he actually offers suggestions for users that might be having trouble running it.

“I’m Jonatan Soderstrom, me and my friend Dennis Wedin made this game,” the post reads. “We’re working on an update that hopefully will take care of any/all bugs, and we’ll try to do some extra polish in the next few days. Would be great if you could update the torrent when the patch is out! It’d be great if people get to play it without any bugs popping up. Hope everyone will enjoy the game!”

Söderström doesn’t actually want you to pirate his game… he’s just a nice guy. Check out the soundtrack even if you don’t like killing things.
