PAUSE: Matt Parker’s Lumarca is the best Kinect hack we’ve seen yet [and pays homage to Loom!]

I stopped by Eyebeam last night for the closing party for Lumarca, the new digital work and “volumetric display) by outgoing Eyebeam fellow Matt Parker. (We’ve got more from him in the news department so stayed tuned!) Working more than six years with partner with Albert Hwang, Lumarca is an interactive projection against a bevy of strings with each one slightly off-set. Although it may hard to tell from the video, it gives beams of light texture and volume. The new game requires you to dance around an illuminated square area and collect boxes that are projected on Lumarca’s strings.
