Pokemon Has World Championships. It’s Finally Come to This.

The irony of a series about travelling the world, catching magical creatures, and then battling other trainers having a real life tournament that does those three things is not lost on us.  The Pokémon World Championships are coming in August:

he US rounds of the 2011 Pokémon Video Game Championship Series starts in Seattle on May 14 and continues until June 18, making stops in San Jose, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington DC and Newark along the way. The top 16 players from each division will earn invitations to compete at the National Championships in Indianapolis.

Meanwhile, European players will be competing for their right to battle on the world stage between June 4 and July 2. Competitions will be taking place in the UK, Italy, Spain, France and Germany.

The top 8 from each National Championship will head to the World Championships, which take place in in San Diego, California between August 12 and 14. There, competitors will clash for the right to prove their worth at Pokémon training once and for all.
