Presenting CREATE: A $45,000 game jam with OUYA

A couple years ago, I was invited by the fine folks at ITU-Copenhagen to give a talk for the Nordic Game Jam. I’d never been to a game jam before and obviously, the chance to get to Denmark was incentive enough, but what I saw was amazing.

Aside from the first play session of Johann Sebastian Joust by Doug Wilson, I watched first hand as dozens of teams raced against the clock to build the best project possible. If you haven’t been to a game jam, you should. It’s a testament to the ingenuity of game design and spontaneous creatively.

So we’ve got some big news.

We are proud to announce CREATE, a 10-day competition to make most amazing game possible. We’re inviting developers worldwide to compete for more than $45,000 in prize money across a variety of categories. It kicks off next Monday, Jan. 14.

To help us make the selections, we’ve pulled together an amazing cast of judges! Here they are — Felicia Day (The Guild), Adam Saltsman (Canabalt), Phil Fish (FEZ), Alexis Madrigal (Atlantic Monthly), Austin Wintory (Grammy-nominated composer), Ed Fries (Co-creator, Xbox), Joanne McNeil (former editor, Rhizome), and Zach Gage (SpellTower). Awesome right?

Read our full contest announcement and get the details on the CREATE site. Once all submissions have been received, we will be hosting video trailers for audience voting, and posting finalists and winners, so check back often!
