Titanfall removes no-scoping and quick-scoping from the FPS, infuriating ten-year-old brothers everywhere

The news coming out of camp Titanfall is that the days of naming yourself xXxnoscope420xXx are coming to an end, somewhat. Quick-scoping and no-scoping are apparently impossible in the massively anticipated upcoming game, which was made, in case you’ve forgotten, by a team of former Call of Duty developers. Fans of that game will be bitterly disappointed, while others will be left wondering what exactly no-scoping and quick-scoping even are, anyway.

Well, to answer my own question, these are flashy combat maneuvers, both helpful and showoffy. For a lot of people, sniping someone without looking through the sights is a big deal. Not among that group? The developers of the biggest shooter of 2014.

That’s what we love about Titanfall. From a focus on mech-riding to the lack of a single-player campaign, the game subverts the expectations one has for a console first-person shooter, a genre that (permission to speak freely) could stand to be shaken up. This spirit of subversion is reinforced by a post made on the game’s message board by an anonymous designer on the game. “Sniping is in the game, but due to how the game plays it’s a pretty different animal than you’ll find in your run of the mill modern military shooter,” he wrote. I like the sound of that!
