As you can see in this wonderful, foam-swirling installation, one man’s packing peanuts are another man’s art. The piece “36 Ventilators, 4.7m3 Packing Chips,” showing now through July 11 in Switzerland, creates the illusion when viewed from outside that the Art Museum Lugano is awhirl with packing material, although that isn’t really the case. In reality, it’s just in the windows. The waves of litter are caused by fans strategically placed by the artist Zimoun, who is known for making minimalist sculptures from common materials that create acoustic sounds. Here, the levitating puffs sound curiously like rapids or some sort of water running in nature.
