How the hell has Hotline Miami sold 130,000 copies?
Hotline Miami doesn’t seem like an easy sell. True, the first postmodern game is my favorite of the year, and its Drive-meets-Scarface-meets-Smash TV aesthetic scratches an itch for a lot of weird dudes like me. But come on: it’s a top-down, grotesque kill fest with a meta-meta plot and it’s only available for PC.
So how the hell has this thing already sold 130,000 copies? This figure doesn’t take into account the rampant pirating of the small game file:
PC piracy…ravaged Hotline Miami. “It has been torrented to such a staggering level, and given the file size of it, I mean, you can’t really be surprised, right? You could pass this thing around on the world’s smallest memory stick,” he noted. “So it has been torrented to extraordinary levels.”
Once the game releases on Mac, where it figures to have a healthy audience, and if it can ever find its way onto the consoles, it could eventually reach Limbo-esque (900,000 copies) sales.
