None of the five best-reviewed games of the past year are AAA games
And four of them are indies:
The balance between Triple-A, traditionally developed games and independently developed games is starting tosway. The closest Triple-A game to make it to the Top Five was Mass Effect 3, with a score of 93, with Dishonored not too far behind with 92. Even so, the top games reviewed for the year is a long long list of games that most gamers wouldn’t be able to name off the top of their heads.
Gaming is starting to look a lot more like the movie landscape: a series of big blockbusters (summer for movies and fall for games) that only sometimes get good press, and a constellation of smaller titles released throughout the year, the best of which get the best reviews and break into the mainstream consciousness.
