Everyone thinks gamers are lazy, but we’re the only people on the couch moving: our fingers, and what with this newfangled motion sensing technology sometimes even our arms and entire bodies. Sony aims to fix that. They’ve filed a patent for eye tracking contact lenses using magnets and mirrors and stuff:

According to Sony, eye gaze may be tracked using magnetic sensors and magnetized contact lenses and/or using video-based sensors and reflective contact lenses. In one embodiment, magnetic sensors may be placed on a video game console or near the head of a user of a video game console to track the location and polarization of magnetized contact lenses.

The year: 2020. You’ve come home from a long day of work at the new Apple factory. You met your quota of iPad 33s today, so you’ve escaped the Soylent Green lottery for another week at least. Your kids sit on the couch, playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 8. You watch them for a moment. They are motionless, except for their flitting eyes, a thousand saccades in a few short seconds, directing drone airplanes and tanks. Your wife might be cheating on you with your cyborg butler, but it doesn’t matter. Moments like these make it all worthwhile.
