It’s true! Joe is leaving us for Buzzfeed.

You might have seen this yesterday.

We’re obviously incredibly happy for Joe as he moves on to new territory. While it’s the most unfortunate kind of compliment, we’ve had several former writers file bylines for Kill Screen before moving into posts at other amazing publications — Kirk Hamilton at Kotaku, Drew Millard at Noisey, Yannick LeJacq at the International Business Times, Ryan Bradley at Fortune, etc. (Joe actually worked for Ryan at PopSci. Small world!) For a small publication like us, it’s a mark of honor. We’re happy to have been an early part of so many talented writers’ careers and are proud to claim our place as the Oakland A’s of games writing.

So where does that leave us? Well, I’ll be taking over editorial oversight duties for the foreseeable future. We’re also happy to announce the introduction of three new staff writers and old hands at KS — Jason Johnson, Jon Irwin, and Danielle Riendeau. You’ll be hearing more from them in the coming weeks, so give them a welcome hand!

I’m not going to give you a big treatise about the future of the site or anything like that. What I will say is that maintaining a variety of voices is really important to the KS project. We’ve always thought of editorial as a bit of a family affair and we’ll keep adding more cousins until the sun burns out. But seriously, one of the things I always loved when I wrote for Pitchfork was the variety of opinions and views that animated the site. You’ll find that at any healthy editorial outlet and I hope you’ll continue to find it here! We’ll just let our work speak for itself and keep making that Kill Screen magic.

We’ll miss you Joe! We will always have your tattoo.
