Let me tell you about midichlorians

Nobody asked how the Force works. Yet George Lucas told us anyway. Knowing it came from organisms called midi-chlorians living in the bloodstream kind of ruined it.

This is just another case of too much information––something videogames are constantly giving us. In a recent blog post, game critic Scott Jones called out games like Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3 for their compulsion to spill the beans, and explains why the stories in these games always bore him.

They explain away whatever mystery they might have had. Nothing is ever subtle, or left to the imagination anymore.

He argues that game developers’ desire to emulate Hollywood movies often means games leave little to the imagination, which robs games of their

tangible sense of discovery and wonder.
