Omote will paint and transform your face in real-time

Technical producer Nobumichi Asai has been working on projection mapping projects for some time, such as this amazing project at a dockyard. Projection mapping allows creators to turn strangely shaped objects into screens, and this time Asai has turned to the human face as his stage.

Title Otome, Asai’s new project takes the face of a woman speckled with matchmoving dots and transforms her from a face of normal makeup, to something entirely beyond. You may, in fact, recognize those dots from any behind-the-scenes looks at games like David Cage’s Beyond: Two Souls. Cage used the CGI technique to capture the performances of Willem Dafoe and Ellen Page.

Asai’s work takes the concept one-step further, and it’s easy to see the implementation used for stage shows and elsewhere.
