As excitement over the newest game announcements building at E3, our friends at Polygon have created a lovely video condensing the history of videogames into 3 ambient minutes. The montage isn’t intended to be a comprehensive list, but it does a wonderful job capturing the series of simple play mechanics that have gradually grown in complexity while also embellishing their capacity for audio visual wonderment. As we begin to gather around the bonfire celebration of the new, the video’s a fine commemoration of the fact that the new is taking part in a long-running dialogue with history.
