Steam’s Greenlight no longer allows listing by most popular

Steam’s Greenlight system, where users vote on the games they’d like to see sold on Steam, has stopped listing the most popular games. Hiding this information suggests that Valve wants users to vote for games not based on how popular they are, but if they look cool. It also means that developers can’t compare how their game is doing to other games on Greenlight.

Indredipede deveoper Colin Northway acknowledges that getting votes is an issue:

The skills required to make good games are very different from the skills required to dominate a “vote for my game” contest, so I’m worried good games will be lost in the shuffle.

Getting underappreciated games into the limelight, or the greenlight, is what Greenlight is all about. May this system continue to undergo revision.
