We can finally help Matt Damon be less lonely on Mars

We can finally help Matt Damon be less lonely on Mars

Ridley Scott’s The Martian came out over a year ago. Matt Damon hung out on Mars, alone, while a round-up of who’s-who in Hollywood watched from the sanctity of Earth, trying desperately to bring him home. As Hollywood movies go, they’re successful. And by its end, Matt Damon is safe and sound in America’s arms, unaware that a year from then a Xenophobic Orange Man would be elected as president. Oh, to return to such blissful times. Anyways. Never a better time to return to outer space, right?

Launching today on Playstation VR and HTC Vive is a new VR experience of The Martian. The VR adventure puts you into the shoes of Matt Damon’s faux-astronaut, as he tries desperately to survive the harsh reality of living on Mars. The Martian: VR Experience reimagines specific scenes from the film, inhibiting them with 360-degrees. That’s in addition to other scenarios, such as fixing a rover, that are directly inspired by the film.

more involved and interactive than most movie tie-ins

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this project, as it first appeared way back at CES earlier this year. While The Martian’s VR spinoff seems more involved and interactive than most movie tie-ins, it’ll still cost you. The Martian: VR Experience is priced at $19.99, a price that is pretty on par with most interactive VR ventures of the like.

The Martian: VR Experience is available now on Steam and the Playstation Store. It will release for the Oculus Rift later this year.
