The election is finally winding down, let’s watch it together virtually

The time is now. It’s here. The day we’ve all been waiting for. And waiting to be over. It’s election day in the United States.

And appropriately, we can celebrate the end of all our collective election anxiety in virtual reality, with AltspaceVR and NBC News’ Virtual Democracy Plaza. The Democracy Plaza, which launched in September earlier this year, is a space that’s reminiscent to New York City’s own real-life Democracy Plaza. With skyscrapers and maybe an avatar stand-in for Al Roker all around you, just like the real Big Apple.

I think dogs should be able to vote!

Since the Virtual Democracy Plaza has launched, AltspaceVR and NBC News have hosted a number of election-timely events: like group debate watching, live Q&As with political analysts, in addition to a few others. And tonight, AltspaceVR and NBC News are reeling back a bit on the frigid structure for the space, opting for an “End of the World”-type party in Democracy Plaza. Or well, maybe not quite that dramatic. It’s actually just a virtual space to watch live election coverage as it unfolds all night.

Oh yeah, and remember to go vote! For a president that isn’t He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, for propositions, for senators and other down ballot offices. Just do your research, and actually vote.

You can join other likeminded VR users in the Democracy Plaza tonight for live election night coverage, starting at 4 p.m. PST.
