Escape the perils of daily life in a digital relaxation space

Escape the perils of daily life in a digital relaxation space

For every shooter that comes out for virtual reality, I count my blessings when the opposite comes along. Perfect, from developers nDreams, is just that. It baits the player not to engage actively, but to “relax, discover, and escape.” Perfect is a tranquil, soak-in-your-environment, escape oriented virtual reality ploy; nothing less, and nothing more. And it’s available today on Playstation VR.

interactivity pared down to bare essentials

As a natural spiritual successor to Perfect Beach, an app for the Gear VR and Google Cardboard by nDreams, Perfect expands on the core, simple concept of relaxation in a VR setting. And with such an easy-going premise, there’s fittingly not much to do around Perfect, despite its Move controller support. However, that’s the point. The player can initiate minor events around their world, like throwing a pebble, but other than that, interactivity is pared down to the barest essentials. In the virtual environments, you’re at least able to listen to music via Spotify, Playstation Music, or its in-game radio as you soak in the calming spaces. I’ve been really into The Avalanches’ Wildflower as of late, so who knows, maybe this warrants a time to have a listening party with… myself.

“We’ve designed Perfect so that it can be experienced by anyone,” writes Jenny Brammall, Associate Community Manager for nDreams, on the Playstation Blog. “The experience is gentle and immersive, with simple controls that make Perfect an ideal way for family and friends to experience the wonders of virtual reality.” Maybe it’s time for good ol’ nana to give VR a spin.

Perfect is available today on Playstation VR for $9.99. You can watch the launch trailer below.
