The more I play the more difficult it is to keep my attention. I say I want something new as a consumer but what I really want is something familiar that’s unbroken with a fresh twist and inspired direction. New can be risky and that was proven this year when I tried Yakuza for the first time (Yakuza 4). Yakuza 4 was a flawed experience with mind-boggling design choices that just make the game no fun. L.A. Noire on the other hand though obviously flawed like Yakuza 4 still managed to be engaging even if it wasn’t insightful or compelling in design.

Skyrim and Uncharted 3 were excellent sequels and unlike Dragon Age II and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations that also came out this year, these games raised the bar and added substantial value to their respective franchises. The design choices made just fit into place and work together to create such well-realized worlds.?
